No referral is needed our highly experienced sleep consultant will make a diagnosis and initiate treatment by:

  • Taking a detailed medical history

  • Perform a physical examination

  • Formulate a diagnosis aided by relevant investigations

  • Instigate a sleep management improvement plan

Treatment will be discussed with you in detail. The management plan will depend on the severity of the condition or conditions.

The Importance of Sleep

Sleep is often an undervalued area of health and well-being, the importance of sleep in every process in the body is paramount. Around a third of the population of the UK suffer from a sleep disorder. There are numerous signs that you could have a sleeping disorder, some of which include:

Parasomnias

  • Do you exhibit unusual behaviours such as shouting out, talking or lashing out in sleep?
  • Do you sleepwalk?
  • Do you undertake any other behaviours such as eating in your sleep or instigating sexual activity in your sleep?
  • Do you act out your dreams?

If yes to some of the above questions, you may have parasomnia. Book an appointment now for a sleep physician review followed by relevant investigations.

Behavioural and pharmacological interventions can then be advised as indicated.

Excessive daytime sleepiness

This can put you at risk for accidence behind the wheel and at some workplaces e.g. operating machinery. It may impact your ability to engage in work, education and social life.

The commonest cause of excessive sleepiness is chronic sleep restriction which is usually behavioural but other causes need to be excluded.
